John Bartrom Dave Cummings

Jericho Home Improvements was started as the brainchild of founder John Bartrom back in 2008, at the height of the worst recession in 50 years. Everyone said he was crazy… the economy was in shambles, and nobody would want to remodel their home.

But for John, it was a matter of blind faith.

He felt called to build a company that actually took care of customers… that didn’t play pricing games… and that only did the highest quality work. His vision was to create a company that employees loved to work for, and that customers raved about.

But most of all, John founded this company as a means to helping orphaned and abandoned children. Since day one, a portion of all sales (not profits) go to selected charities. In the early days, that meant sacrificing personal income. As the company grew, that meant donating a substantial portion of profits to the children.

The driving force behind the company was—and still is—John’s steadfast commitment to Jericho’s Eight Core Values, listed below.

John is no longer with us, but his spirit carries us forward, and his vision remains.

Jericho’s Core Values

At Jericho Home Improvements, we have honed a core set of values that guide ALL of our Team Members EVERY day. We know that at some companies, mission statements and core value exercises are quickly created and just as quickly forgotten. Not so here.

The following core values are the bedrock foundation that supports the special culture at Jericho Home Improvements. It is these core values that distinguish us from the typical mediocrity in the remodeling industry and drive our success.

1. Create “Raving Fans” of our Clients

We reject the idea that “good enough” is good enough. We must give our clients a GREAT experience in every area. We don’t just want satisfaction; we want them to rave about Jericho.

2. Taking Care of Our Jericho Family

The key to our success is treating people well. Team members are encouraged to speak up and take risks. We recognize and reward excellence and promote development and growth.

3. Giving Back

The fundamental foundation of Jericho is to give back through our time, financial support, and resources to our communities and organizations that align with our core values.

4. Doing the Right Thing

We exercise good judgment by “doing the right thing” instead of just “doing things right.” We strive to understand the impact of our decisions, and we accept responsibility for our actions.

5. Do More with Less

We are focused and serious about the operations of our business. We believe in hard work and investing extra effort to get things done. We believe in operational excellence, and realize there is always room for improvement in everything we do.

6. Be Passionate and Strive for Excellence

Passion is the fuel that drives us and the company forward. We value passion, excellence, determination, perseverance, and a sense of urgency.

7. Being a Student of What We Do

We never stop learning. We never stop making ourselves better. Positive growth is important both personally and professionally. And growth comes from constantly challenging and stretching ourselves individually and as a company.

8. Be Humble

While we reward and celebrate our individual and team successes, we are not arrogant. We always treat others how we would want to be treated. We carry ourselves with a quiet confidence, because we believe in the long run our character will speak for itself.

We believed in these principles when we launched, and we believe in them now. We’re delighted to report that being true to these values has led to tremendous success. Jericho Home Improvements is now the largest independent kitchen and bath remodeling company in the country.

I’m grateful to my team and our clients for allowing us to go on this incredible journey.

Sincerely,
Alec Burton, President
